Rolling Stone (issue 77) — "Them Vino-Lovin' Allman Brothers" (Alec Dubro): Duane Allman and Berry Oakley, hungover in a San Francisco Holiday Inn room after what Dubro calls "a debilitating debauch," marvel at California wine prices — "A dollar ninety-nine for that stuff. A whole gallon of it. Man, in Georgia you wouldn't believe it." Duane cuts off the reporter's questions about revolution in the South ("There ain't no revolution. Hippies are scared of revolution... But, there's evolution. People gettin' new ideas.") and defends the band's road pace: "I just can't lay back on my ass anywhere." Dubro closes by noting they "didn't seem like they wanted to be stars, just musicians." The interview was most likely conducted during the band's 28-31 January Fillmore West run; the date here is the issue's cover date.

The unsparing account of the band's drug use — Duane called cocaine "Vitamin C" — infuriated Gregg Allman; Lewis's widow later said the decision to run the piece so soon after Duane's death was Jann Wenner's, not the writer's.
