The Macon Telegraph — "Allman Under Heavy Guard," subtitled "Death Threats Reported": front-page report during the Scooter Herring trial that threats against Gregg Allman's life had prompted federal officials to place the key witness in round-the-clock protective custody under four U.S. Marshals. The story is quoted at length in the Fifth Circuit's 1978 ruling on Herring's appeal.
